About us
To break down barriers to financial freedom and make cryptocurrency accessible, safe, and easy to use for everyone.
CoinFlip operates the world's largest network of cryptocurrency kiosks by transaction volume, with over 5,500 locations across 49 U.S. states and 11 countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Italy, Panama, Brazil, Mexico, and Spain. Founded in 2015 in Chicago, the company bridges cash and crypto by letting people buy and sell digital assets using cash at physical kiosks or through their mobile app. Beyond the ATM network, CoinFlip runs three main services: CoinFlip Preferred for personalized over-the-counter trading with white-glove support, the CoinFlip Crypto Wallet (a self-custodial mobile app for iOS and Android), and CoinFlip Ventures, which invests in early-stage crypto and web3 projects. The company has been recognized on the Inc. 5000 list from 2021-2024, the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 from 2022-2024, and was named Chicago's fastest-growing company by Crain's in 2021 and 2022. With over 300 employees and approximately $79 million in annual revenue, CoinFlip serves more than 500,000 customers worldwide.
Products
The core product is a network of cryptocurrency ATMs that let users buy and sell digital assets with cash, debit cards, or bank transfers. CoinFlip also offers the CoinFlip Crypto Wallet, a self-custodial mobile app for iOS and Android that handles secure asset storage and transactions. For institutional and high-volume retail clients, CoinFlip Preferred provides personalized over-the-counter trading with dedicated support. The company launched Olliv in 2023, a digital platform for buying, selling, sending, swapping, and receiving cryptocurrencies. CoinFlip Ventures, launched in 2022, provides coaching, funding, and networking support to early-stage crypto and web3 projects.
Funding
CoinFlip has raised between $1.84 million and $7.84 million across two seed funding rounds between 2016 and 2018. Investors included Shoreline Venture Management, JetBlue Technology Ventures, Heads or Tails Investments, SKY VC, and Camp One Ventures. The company also received a $150,000 PPP loan in April 2020. Rather than relying heavily on venture capital, CoinFlip has primarily grown through operational revenues, reaching approximately $79 million in annual revenue. In 2022, the company launched CoinFlip Ventures to provide capital and support to early-stage crypto and web3 projects.
Recent news
In May 2026, the Missouri Attorney General filed a lawsuit against CoinFlip, accusing the company of knowingly facilitating fraudulent transactions and failing to clearly disclose transaction fees, which were alleged to be as high as 21.9%. The lawsuit seeks up to $1.83 million in civil penalties and an operational ban within Missouri. CoinFlip has rejected these allegations, labeling the lawsuit as meritless and asserting that the company has consistently championed consumer protection legislation for cryptocurrency kiosks.
Technology
The engineering team uses Python, Java, and JavaScript/Node.js for backend development, with React for frontend work. Data infrastructure includes SQL databases (MySQL and SQLite), cloud data warehousing with Snowflake or Redshift, and Kafka for high-volume data streams. Kubernetes handles containerized deployment for scalability. Business development teams use CRM tools and LinkedIn Sales Navigator for lead generation and pipeline management. The mobile wallet runs on iOS and Android platforms. Additional tools include DatoCMS for content management, Cloudflare for performance and security, and collaboration tools like Figma, JIRA, and Confluence.
