About us

To enable everyone to use crypto with peace of mind.

CoinTracker is a cryptocurrency portfolio tracking and tax compliance platform that helps users manage digital assets across 500+ exchanges, wallets, and blockchains. Founded in 2017, the company serves over 3 million users who track more than $50 billion in crypto assets. The platform automatically calculates capital gains, generates IRS-ready tax forms, and integrates directly with TurboTax and H&R Block. Beyond individual users, CoinTracker Enterprise provides accounting subledgers for businesses managing crypto on their balance sheets. The team operates fully remote across 20+ countries, with bi-annual in-person retreats.

Products

The core product is a crypto tax and portfolio platform that syncs transactions from 500+ exchanges and wallets into one dashboard. Users get real-time portfolio tracking, automated capital gains calculations, and tax-loss harvesting tools. The platform generates IRS-ready reports and handles the new 1099-DA form reconciliation. CoinTracker Enterprise serves businesses with SOC 2 certified accounting subledgers that integrate with QuickBooks and NetSuite. The company also offers mobile apps on iOS and Android alongside the web platform.

Funding

CoinTracker raised $102 million across two main rounds. The company secured $1.5 million in seed funding in April 2018 from Initialized Capital, Y Combinator, and Coinbase Ventures, with angels including Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian. In January 2022, they closed a $100 million Series A led by Accel at a $1.3 billion valuation. Other investors include General Catalyst, Kraken Ventures, Intuit Ventures, and Seven Seven Six. Annual revenue hit $23.1 million in 2025, up from $9 million in 2024.

Recent news

In March 2026, CoinTracker and Coinbase jointly published the '2026 Crypto Tax Readiness Report.' The survey of 3,000 U.S. crypto users revealed that nearly two-thirds of investors were heading into tax season unaware of new IRS reporting rules, specifically regarding Form 1099-DA for 2025 taxes.

Technology

The frontend uses React and TypeScript with Styled Components, while mobile apps are built with React Native and Expo. Backend services run on Python with Flask framework and GraphQL for API queries. Data infrastructure includes PostgreSQL, Google Cloud Bigtable, and Redis, with Python RQ and Temporal handling workflow orchestration. Everything runs on Google Cloud Platform managed through Terraform. Monitoring relies on Datadog and PagerDuty, with team collaboration through Slack, Notion, Linear, and GitHub.

Benefits

CoinTracker offers unlimited PTO with encouragement to take at least 30 days per year, plus 12 weeks paid parental leave followed by 12 weeks unpaid. Health, dental, vision, and mental health coverage are included, along with 401(k) and life insurance. The company provides $1,000 annually for learning and development, a home office budget, and meaningful equity packages. Bi-annual team retreats bring the remote team together, and the culture emphasizes flexibility with async-first communication.
