About us

To build the standard for institutional digital asset infrastructure.

Founded in 2018, Copper builds institutional digital asset infrastructure with a focus on custody, collateral management, and prime services. The company serves hedge funds, trading firms, ETP providers, and venture capital funds with secure storage for 600+ digital assets across 60+ blockchain networks. At its core is Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology that eliminates single points of failure - assets can connect to centralized exchanges, DeFi applications, and staking pools without leaving custody. ClearLoop, their off-exchange settlement network, lets institutions trade across multiple exchanges while assets remain in MPC-secured wallets, reducing settlement times to milliseconds and reshaping how asset managers trade and manage capital. Based in London with teams across APAC, Switzerland, UAE, and the US.

Products

Copper's core offering is ClearLoop, an off-exchange settlement network that allows firms to trade on various exchanges while assets remain in MPC custody, mitigating counterparty risk. Following a 2023 strategic pivot, the company discontinued general enterprise custody to focus exclusively on this infrastructure. The platform provides configurable cold, warm, and hot vaults with role-based controls and customizable approval workflows. Additional services include OTC derivatives collateral management, agency lending through their financing desk, staking services for institutional clients, and tools for stablecoin yield generation. The Copper Network, launched in 2023, connects over 600 active counterparties in a custodian-agnostic settlement network.

Funding

Copper has raised approximately $281 million since 2018. Early rounds included $1.3 million in seed funding (2019) and $7.85 million Series A (2020). The company closed a $50 million Series B in May 2021, co-led by Dawn Capital and Target Global, followed by a $196 million Series C in October 2022 with participation from Tiger Global and Barclays. Key investors include Dawn Capital, Target Global, LocalGlobe, MMC Ventures, and Illuminate Financial Management. As of 2022, Copper reported $27.7 million in revenue. By mid-2026, the company shifted from IPO plans to pursue a trade sale, reportedly seeking a $500 million valuation with Cantor Fitzgerald advising.

Recent news

In May 2026, Copper appointed Cantor Fitzgerald as a sell-side adviser to explore a trade sale of its business, specifically targeting a valuation of approximately $500 million, after previously weighing an initial public offering earlier in the year. Additionally, in April 2026, the company appointed Mike Kuehnel as Chairman and John Meserve as a Non-Executive Director.

Technology

Infrastructure runs on AWS and Azure with heavy use of Infrastructure as Code through Terraform, Ansible, and Bicep. Containerized services are orchestrated via Kubernetes (EKS) with CI/CD pipelines built on GitHub Actions and ArgoCD. Endpoint management uses Jamf Pro for macOS and Entra ID for identity management. Automation relies on Python and Bash scripting. The team integrates SaaS platforms including Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Atlassian tools. Monitoring and logging are handled through Datadog and CloudWatch. At the product level, Copper's custody architecture is built around MPC technology for secure, distributed key management across multiple blockchain networks.
