About us

To make digital asset investing simple and open to every investor.

Founded in 2013, Grayscale manages over $35 billion in digital assets, making it the world's largest crypto-focused investment platform. The firm operates at the intersection of traditional finance and digital assets, offering institutional-grade investment products that let investors access cryptocurrencies without the complexity of direct ownership. Based in Stamford, Connecticut, Grayscale serves both individual and institutional clients through a suite of ETFs, publicly traded funds, and private placements. As a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group, the company has pioneered regulated crypto investing and filed for an IPO in 2025.

Products

The flagship product is the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), along with single-asset trusts for Ethereum, Solana, Litecoin, and other cryptocurrencies. Diversified offerings include the Digital Large Cap Fund and DeFi Fund. Products typically start as private placements for accredited investors before becoming publicly traded and eventually converting to ETF structures. Recent launches include the Hyperliquid Staking ETF and Chainlink Trust ETF, with new filings for assets like BNB in the pipeline.

Funding

Grayscale operates as a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group, which raised $700 million in a secondary round led by SoftBank in 2021, valuing DCG at $10 billion. The company has raised approximately $54.4 million in direct funding with backing from GSR Ventures and angel investors. Grayscale filed confidentially for an IPO in July 2025, going public with the filing in November. Revenue exceeded $500 million in 2024, though it declined 20% year-over-year.

Recent news

In June 2026, Grayscale launched the Grayscale Hyperliquid Staking ETF (HYPG) on Nasdaq, positioning it with a competitive 0.29% sponsor fee, the lowest among U.S.-listed Hyperliquid ETFs at the time of launch. This followed a period of regulatory activity, including a 2025 SEC registration filing (S-1) as part of the company's efforts to move toward a public offering.

Technology

Microsoft Office Suite handles most productivity work, with Slack for team communication, Zoom for meetings, and Concur for expense management. The broader infrastructure includes Office 365, Ansible for configuration management, Angular for web applications, and dc.js for data visualization. Most roles focus on standard business software rather than specialized trading or blockchain technology.

Benefits

Health, dental, and vision insurance is 100% company-paid for employees and families. The 401(k) includes a dollar-for-dollar match up to 5% that's fully vested immediately. The Stamford office features free gourmet breakfast and lunch from private chefs, a barista bar that converts to an alcohol bar after hours, and fully stocked snack pantries. Parental leave extends up to 16 weeks, plus fertility benefits through Carrot. The company offers hybrid scheduling with commuter benefits and relocation packages.
