About us

To identify real-world constraints in blockchain and build open-source infrastructure that converts systemic bottlenecks into shared breakthroughs.

Jump Crypto operates as the blockchain-focused division of Jump Trading Group, a Chicago-based quantitative trading firm founded in 1999. Starting as an internal research project in 2015 and formally launching in 2021, Jump Crypto has grown into a global team of 80+ employees working at the intersection of trading, infrastructure building, and venture investment. The firm takes a unique approach: it identifies bottlenecks in crypto markets through active trading, then builds open-source infrastructure to solve those problems. Rather than just trading or just building, Jump Crypto combines deep market participation with engineering expertise to create tools that benefit entire ecosystems. The team operates globally across major financial hubs, supporting trading infrastructure that spans traditional and crypto markets.

Products

Jump Crypto focuses on three areas: trading, building, and investing. On the building side, major projects include Firedancer, a high-performance Solana validator client now live on mainnet, and contributions to the Pyth Network oracle and Wormhole interoperability protocol. The team has also developed the Shelby Storage Protocol for decentralized storage and spun out Cordial Systems for self-hosted digital asset wallets. Rather than traditional products, Jump Crypto creates open-source infrastructure that addresses systemic constraints in blockchain networks, often contributing code and capital to help projects scale.

Funding

Jump Crypto operates as a division of Jump Trading Group rather than an independent venture-backed company. Its capital comes from the parent firm's resources, allowing it to deploy hundreds of millions across DeFi, blockchain infrastructure, and Web3 investments without traditional funding rounds. Industry estimates suggest Jump Crypto's annual revenue reached approximately $380 million in 2024, up from $250 million in 2023. The division manages significant institutional capital for both internal infrastructure projects and external investments in decentralized protocols.

Recent news

In June 2026, Jump Crypto confirmed that its Solana validator client, Firedancer, is live on the Solana mainnet and has processed tens of millions of transactions, though the firm is maintaining a cautious, gradual rollout pending full security audits. Concurrently, Jump Trading is defending itself against a $4 billion lawsuit filed by the Terraform Labs bankruptcy estate, which alleges that the firm engaged in market manipulation and secret trading interventions to support TerraUSD (UST) during its 2021-2022 de-pegging episodes. Jump has rejected these claims as a transparent attempt to deflect liability following the SEC’s $4.4 billion fine against Terraform.

Technology

The infrastructure runs on Linux with Kubernetes orchestration, using Terraform, Ansible, and Salt for configuration management. Monitoring relies on Prometheus and Alertmanager, while development happens primarily in Python, Golang, and Rust. The team manages proof-of-stake blockchain infrastructure on Solana and Ethereum, including validators, light clients, and RPC nodes. Security tools cover key management, server hardening, and intrusion detection. At the hardware level, Jump Crypto uses custom ASIC and FPGA development with technologies like AF_XDP for ultra-low latency networking that operates at physical hardware limits.

Benefits

Jump Crypto provides discretionary bonus eligibility, medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus HSA, FSA, and dependent care options. The package includes employer-paid group term life and AD&D insurance, voluntary additional coverage, paid vacation and holidays, and a retirement plan with employer match. Parents get paid parental leave, and there are wellness programs available. The culture emphasizes collaboration, intellectual honesty, and continuous learning in a globally distributed team environment. Employees work on challenging technical problems with both cloud-based and bare-metal infrastructure.
