About us

Permissionless infrastructure for a better world

LayerZero builds omnichain infrastructure that lets decentralized applications operate across multiple blockchains without centralized intermediaries. Founded in 2021, the company has become a critical piece of Web3 infrastructure, powering over 700 companies and securing $75+ billion in assets with $200+ billion in historical cross-chain volume. The protocol enables seamless messaging and asset transfers across 150+ blockchains, solving the fragmentation problem that has limited blockchain adoption. Teams across FinTech, banking, and DeFi rely on LayerZero to move liquidity and deploy chain-agnostic applications at scale.

Products

The core LayerZero protocol enables secure cross-chain messaging through decentralized verifier networks, allowing developers to choose their own security stack. Stargate, acquired for $110 million in August 2025, serves as the primary interface for cross-chain swaps and liquidity transport across omnichain DeFi. Zero, launching fall 2026, is positioned as "the last blockchain" - a high-throughput Layer-1 designed for institutional tokenization and settlement with claims of 2 million transactions per second. The lzAsset service automates token deployment across 150+ chains using Omnichain Fungible Token standards.

Funding

LayerZero has raised approximately $318 million across multiple rounds since 2021. The company achieved a $1 billion valuation in March 2022 with a $135 million Series A extension led by Sequoia Capital, FTX Ventures, and Andreessen Horowitz. A $120 million Series B in April 2023 pushed the valuation to $3 billion, with backing from a16z, Sequoia, Circle Ventures, and OKX Ventures. Recent strategic investments in 2026 came from Tether, Citadel Securities, and ARK Invest, with a16z making a $55 million open-market purchase of ZRO tokens.

Recent news

In February 2026, LayerZero announced the development of "Zero," a new high-throughput Layer-1 blockchain network. The initiative is backed by major strategic partnerships with institutional giants including Citadel Securities, ARK Invest, the DTCC, and Google Cloud.

Technology

Smart contracts are built in Solidity for Endpoints and the OFT standard, while core infrastructure uses systems languages like Golang, Rust, C++, and C for relayers and performance-critical paths. The broader ecosystem incorporates JavaScript, Python, and Ruby for tooling, middleware, and API integrations. Engineers work extensively with integration architecture patterns, web services, and decentralized oracle networks. Testing and deployment rely on tools like Foundry, with the stack designed to seamlessly bridge across Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, and 150+ other blockchains.

Benefits

The team operates with a "leave egos at the door" mentality in a genuinely fast-paced environment with ambiguity, change, and odd hours due to the global nature of crypto. LayerZero offers competitive compensation with their "Progress Pays" employee ownership program that aligns individual performance with company success. Benefits include unlimited PTO, up to $3,000 in first-year technology and learning allowances, and comprehensive health coverage tailored by country. The culture emphasizes cross-training, skill-building opportunities, and long-term decision-making as the company scales.
