About us

To advance personal freedom for all by accelerating the mass adoption of public blockchains.

Matter Labs builds private settlement infrastructure that lets regulated institutions settle directly with each other without exposing data, ceding control, or waiting days. Global finance moves $4 quadrillion annually on systems designed for paper and telex — the institutions that built them are now actively replacing them with what Matter Labs is building next. Their core product, Prividium, gives each institution its own private settlement environment with independent governance and built-in interoperability across counterparties, asset classes, and jurisdictions. Settlement happens through zero-knowledge proofs: one party proves a transaction is valid without revealing underlying data to the counterparty. It's the only private settlement infrastructure built on zero-knowledge cryptography. The company also created zkSync, a Layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum that uses zero-knowledge rollups to reduce transaction costs and increase throughput while maintaining security. With eight years of production zero-knowledge infrastructure behind them, this fully remote team of around 90 is now pointed at the biggest problem in institutional finance.

Products

The flagship product is zkSync, a Layer-2 protocol that uses zero-knowledge rollups to scale Ethereum with faster, cheaper transactions while maintaining security. The ZK Stack provides a modular framework for developers and enterprises to launch customized, sovereign blockchain networks. Prividium offers privacy-focused execution environments for banks and corporations to process confidential transactions and manage tokenized assets in compliance with regulations. Matter Labs also provides zkSync Managed Services to handle operational overhead for enterprises and developer tools including SDKs and APIs for integrating ZK technologies.

Funding

Matter Labs has raised $458 million across multiple funding rounds. Key investments include a $200 million Series C in November 2022 co-led by Blockchain Capital and Dragonfly, a $50 million Series B in 2021, and a $6 million Series A. The company is backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Union Square Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Variant, and over 20 other institutional investors. They also established a $200 million ecosystem fund to foster zkSync adoption.

Recent news

In January 2026, Matter Labs unveiled its updated ZKsync roadmap, shifting its strategic focus toward institutional adoption and real-world financial infrastructure. A centerpiece of this announcement was the prioritization of Prividium, a privacy-centric execution environment designed to help regulated banks and enterprises execute confidential on-chain transactions.

Technology

Built on zero-knowledge cryptography with zkSync at the core. Engineering primarily uses Rust, C++, and Go for protocol development, plus Solidity, Vyper, and Yul for smart contracts. Developer workflows rely on Web3 tools like Foundry. Cloud infrastructure runs on Kubernetes with robust CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code. Security operations use modern SIEM and SOAR platforms for threat detection, with macOS endpoints managed through MDM and EDR solutions. The stack includes identity and collaboration platforms with IAM, DLP, and context-aware access controls.

Benefits

Fully remote work with no time tracking and minimum bureaucracy — results matter, not hours logged. Optional travel to team or industry events, with preference for East Coast or European time zones. The culture emphasizes freedom, ownership, and direct communication across a lean, high-leverage organization. Employees get 28 workdays of paid vacation annually, 10 days of paid sick leave, competitive salaries with regular raises, and equity options. Additional perks include a $2,000 equipment stipend, $300 monthly co-working allowance, premium health coverage, and 16 weeks of paid parental leave.
