About us
Enable global adoption of Ethereum by building the most secure, stable, and decentralized blockchain.
OP Labs builds Optimism, an open-source blockchain network that powers the next generation of financial infrastructure. Hundreds of companies, from enterprises like Sony, Coinbase, Kraken, and Uniswap to ambitious early-stage builders, use the OP Stack to launch their own blockchains. Today, over 65% of Layer 2 activity on Ethereum runs through the OP Stack. The team develops the modular framework that enables developers and enterprises to deploy customizable Ethereum-equivalent optimistic rollups with Ethereum-grade security and fast transactions. As a core contributor to the Optimism ecosystem, OP Labs provides the foundational architecture, sequencer operations, and continuous upgrades necessary for running secure, high-performance blockchains across the Superchain.
Products
The core product is the OP Stack, an open-source, modular framework for building optimistic rollups that scale Ethereum. In January 2026, OP Labs launched OP Enterprise, a production-grade managed blockchain infrastructure service with three tiers: Fully Managed hosting, Self Managed support, and OP Mainnet integration. The platform supports major networks like Uniswap's Unichain, Celo, and Kraken's Ink. In April 2026, the company introduced Privacy Boost, a developer SDK using zero-knowledge proofs and trusted execution environments to enable private, compliant transactions for DeFi applications addressing institutional requirements.
Funding
OP Labs has raised $178 million from a16z, Paradigm, and others. The company reached a $1.65 billion valuation following a $150 million Series B in March 2022 led by Andreessen Horowitz and Paradigm. This followed a $25 million Series A in 2021 and a $3.5 million seed round in 2020. In December 2025, the company completed a Series C-II round raising $20.12 million with Khosla Ventures as a key investor. The infrastructure has demonstrated strong financial traction, with exchange-owned chains built on the framework generating over $495 million in on-chain revenue in the second half of 2025 alone.
Recent news
In March 2026, OP Labs announced a 20% workforce reduction—laying off 20 employees—in a strategic move to streamline decision-making and narrow its business focus following the departure of Coinbase's Base network from the OP Stack.
Technology
Built around the OP Stack framework with codebases primarily in TypeScript, Solidity, and Go, increasingly incorporating Rust for high-performance protocol components. Engineers work extensively with EVM architecture, Layer 1 and Layer 2 protocols, rollup sequencing, finality mechanisms, and smart contracts. Infrastructure is containerized using Kubernetes with Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform and Ansible. The team uses specialized blockchain tooling including Foundry for testing, plus libraries like Viem and Wagmi for Ethereum interactions. Cloud infrastructure runs on AWS with integrations to enterprise custody solutions like Fireblocks, supporting devnets, performance benchmarking, and production deployments.
Benefits
Remote-friendly with NYC as the center of gravity. Health, dental, and vision insurance is 100% covered for employees and dependents. The 401(k) includes a 100% match up to 4% of contributions, and salaries are standardized based on San Francisco rates in the top 25% of the industry. Employees get unlimited PTO plus two company-wide "Collective Pause" weeks annually, 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave, and a paid month-long sabbatical after four years. There's a $1,000 home office stipend, access to co-working spaces via Upflex, and company-paid crypto tax filing assistance. The culture values high agency, low ego, and execution-oriented builders working on fast-moving, collaborative cross-functional teams.
