About us

To build the world’s most trusted and inclusive marketplace for the NFTs that empower the next generation of creators and builders.

Built as the largest NFT marketplace, OpenSea has evolved into a comprehensive Web3 platform where users trade NFTs, cryptocurrencies, and emerging digital assets across 20+ blockchains. Founded in 2017, the company supports millions of users through its exchange infrastructure, recently launching OpenSea 2.0 and expanding into token trading and perpetual futures. The team operates remote-first with a small but mighty culture focused on ownership, trust, and shipping meaningful work. Based in Miami with distributed talent, OpenSea processes about $3 billion in NFT transactions monthly while building the infrastructure for user-owned digital economies.

Products

The core platform lets users discover, buy, sell, and trade NFTs and tokens across multiple blockchains through a single interface. OpenSea's infrastructure runs on Seaport, an open-source smart contract protocol enabling complex trades in single transactions. Recent expansions include token swapping, perpetual futures trading powered by Hyperliquid, and a mobile app in phased rollout. Developer tools include REST APIs, SDKs, and an MCP server for AI agentic trading. The platform aggregates collections across Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, Base, Arbitrum, and other networks.

Funding

OpenSea has raised approximately $427 million across six funding rounds, with its largest being a $300 million Series C in January 2022 that valued the company at $13.3 billion. The round was led by Paradigm and Coatue, following a $100 million Series B led by Andreessen Horowitz in July 2021. Other investors include Blockchain Capital, Animoca Brands, Haun Ventures, and Y Combinator. The company generates around $75 million in monthly revenue as of March 2026.

Recent news

As of June 2026, OpenSea is actively expanding beyond its NFT roots by integrating perpetual futures trading through a partnership with Hyperliquid and initiating early-access testing for its new mobile application, which includes features like Apple Pay-enabled fiat-to-crypto conversion and broad multi-chain support.

Technology

Android development uses Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, with Kotlin Multiplatform for shared components across platforms. GraphQL handles data fetching through Apollo for real-time updates and responsive interfaces. The broader platform runs on Next.js and React for frontend, with JVM-based backend services using Kotlin and Java. Infrastructure includes AWS, Kafka, Flink, and Debezium for event-driven architecture. The team actively adopts AI-assisted development tools to accelerate productivity and improve code quality.
