About us

To accelerate the crypto-economy by building an on-chain dark pool that delivers strong anonymity and optimal trade execution.

Renegade runs an onchain dark pool for crypto trading. Think of it like institutional-grade private exchanges from traditional stock markets, but fully decentralized with no trusted intermediaries. Trades happen at the midpoint of Binance's bid-ask spread with zero price impact, and all order details stay hidden through zero-knowledge proofs and multi-party computation. This eliminates MEV, slippage, and wallet tracking. The platform is live on Arbitrum and Base, serving institutional clients like DEX aggregators, market-neutral funds, and professional traders who need to move size without revealing their positions. Since going live in late 2024, they've matched over $300M in volume.

Products

The core product is an onchain dark pool that lets traders exchange any tokens with complete privacy. Orders get matched peer-to-peer at Binance's midpoint price through a crossing network. All matching happens via multi-party computation, and settlement uses zero-knowledge proofs to keep everything confidential. Renegade also offers Direct Matches for active traders and a Solver RFQ system for DEX aggregators. The protocol includes opt-in compliance features, letting users trade only with identity-verified counterparties.

Funding

The company raised $3.4 million in seed funding in February 2023, co-led by Dragonfly Capital and Naval Ravikant. Angel investors included Balaji Srinivasan, Tarun Chitra from Gauntlet, Marc Bhargava from Tagomi, and Lily Liu from Osmosis. The job description mentions they've now raised over $20M total in venture funding.

Recent news

On May 10, 2026, Renegade experienced a security exploit in its V1 Arbitrum-based dark pool that drained approximately $209,000 due to a proxy configuration flaw. The protocol successfully recovered about $190,000 (over 90% of the stolen assets) within 45 minutes after communicating with the hacker, who acted as a "whitehat" and retained a 10% bounty. Renegade confirmed that the vulnerability resulted from an April 2025 software update and committed to fully compensating all affected users.

Technology

Built primarily in Rust for performance-critical systems like ZK provers and distributed consensus. The protocol uses zero-knowledge proofs (Plonk, Bulletproofs) and multi-party computation for private order matching. Infrastructure runs on AWS with onchain settlement via Arbitrum Stylus, letting them share secure code paths between offchain and onchain components. The stack includes raft consensus, event ingestion pipelines, and real-time price streaming from centralized exchanges. Some auxiliary components use Solidity and TypeScript.

Benefits

The team works in-person in San Francisco with a lean, high-caliber culture focused on hard technical problems. With only four engineers, you get real ownership and a wide surface area to impact. The role can be shaped based on your interests — whether that's customer-facing work or deep performance optimization. The codebase is open source and audited by zkSecurity, reflecting their emphasis on code quality and engineering rigor.
