About us

To advance the adoption of decentralized technologies and build the Solana protocol into the world's most censorship-resistant network.

The Solana Foundation is a non-profit based in Zug, Switzerland, dedicated to building the Solana network into what they call the most censorship-resistant blockchain in the world. Rather than developing consumer products, the Foundation focuses on ecosystem-level initiatives: grants and community support, validator delegation programs, and efforts to grow network participation. Through its Grants Program, the Foundation has deployed over $100 million to more than 500 projects globally, funding everything from DeFi protocols to infrastructure tools. The Foundation also operates a Delegation Program that stakes SOL with qualifying validators to help decentralize the network. Beyond funding, they collaborate with internal contributors and external ecosystem teams to solve technical challenges and accelerate development of core infrastructure, developer tooling, and open-source standards.

Products

The Foundation's flagship offering is the Solana Developer Platform (SDP), an API-driven suite that helps institutions issue, trade, and manage tokenized assets. SDP integrates services from over 20 infrastructure partners covering node management, custody, and compliance. Other initiatives include the Delegation Program for validator support, extensive grants funding, and the recently launched STRIDE Security Program that evaluates security practices across DeFi projects. The Foundation also hosts global hackathons with Colosseum and the annual Breakpoint conference.

Funding

As a non-profit foundation, Solana Foundation doesn't raise traditional venture capital. Instead, it manages significant capital through ecosystem initiatives and grants programs. The broader Solana ecosystem has seen major funding, including a $314 million private token sale in June 2021 led by Andreessen Horowitz and Polychain Capital. Projects from the Foundation's Colosseum accelerator have collectively raised over $650 million. The Foundation sustains its operations through ecosystem participation rather than equity-based funding rounds.

Recent news

In June 2026, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) announced a historic partnership with the Solana Foundation, naming it the official Presenting Sponsor for the 2026 WSOP events in Las Vegas and The Bahamas. This collaboration allows players to purchase tournament tickets directly using cryptocurrency via the Solana network for the first time.

Technology

Everything centers on Rust for building high-performance Solana programs, using both the Anchor framework and native development. Engineers work extensively with Solana's runtime (SVM), SPL tokens, and Program Derived Addresses (PDAs). The stack includes state compression, account metering, and program optimization techniques. DeFi infrastructure spans CLOBs, AMMs, lending protocols, oracle integrations, and liquidation engines. Developer tooling includes indexers, custom RPCs, gasless relayers, session keys, and smart contract wallets. Teams also contribute to Anchor/Pinocchio and integrate with protocols like OpenBook, Jupiter, MarginFi, Orca, and Meteora.

Benefits

The Foundation offers 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance via premium PPO plans, plus life and disability coverage. Employees get unlimited vacation, generous wellness benefits, and monthly stipends for internet and cell phone expenses. There's an initial work-from-home office stipend and regular company retreats. You can opt to receive part of your salary in cryptocurrency, and there's a 401(k) program for retirement planning. Roles vary from full-time positions to grant-based work, with candidates matched to ecosystem teams based on skills and interests.
