Sui Foundation
About us
Move billions of users onchain through the global adoption of Sui.
Built from the ground up as a permissionless Layer 1 blockchain, Sui enables creators and developers to build Web3 experiences across gaming, finance, and beyond. The platform processes over 297,000 transactions per second with 400ms finality, making it fast enough for real-time applications. Assets, data, and permissions can be owned, programmed, and verified onchain, giving users true ownership while maintaining Web2-level ease of use. The Sui Foundation operates as an independent organization supporting ecosystem growth, with a mission to onboard the next billion users to web3. The team is 100% remote and distributed globally, committed to transparency, open communication, and direct community engagement.
Products
The core offering is the Sui Stack — a modular toolkit for building scalable applications. Key components include DeepBook for programmable liquidity and unified capital markets, SuiNS for onchain identity management, and zkLogin for wallet creation using web credentials. Walrus provides decentralized storage as a memory layer for AI agents, while Seal handles access control and Nautilus enables verifiable offchain computation. The platform supports confidential transfers in public beta for institutional compliance and offers gasless stablecoin transfers with sub-second settlement through its Payments Stack.
Funding
Mysten Labs raised approximately $336 million across two rounds. A $36 million Series A closed in December 2021, followed by a $300 million Series B in September 2022 at a $2 billion valuation. Investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Coinbase Ventures, Electric Capital, and Jump Crypto. Since mainnet launch in May 2023, Sui's market cap has grown to over $15.9 billion as of January 2025. The Foundation also runs funding programs, supporting projects like Ika ($21M raised) and Bluefin ($17M raised).
Recent news
In late May 2026, the Sui Mainnet experienced three significant network outages over a 48-hour period caused by bugs involving gas-charging logic and validator state management, which were subsequently resolved after major upgrades. Despite these operational challenges, the network successfully launched protocol-level gasless stablecoin transfers in May 2026 to enhance payment accessibility.
Technology
Sui's protocol is written in Rust with Move as the smart contract language for security and performance. Full-stack applications typically use TypeScript and React frontends with Next.js, plus Node.js for backend APIs. Data management involves SQL databases and Redis for key-value storage, while UI development uses Tailwind CSS. Developers integrate through Sui's JSON-RPC APIs and gRPC/GraphQL interfaces. The network runs on the Mysticeti consensus protocol for sub-second finality, with an Archival Store for comprehensive data management.
Benefits
The Foundation operates as a 100% remote, global team with no office requirement. Benefits include unlimited PTO, private health and life insurance for employees and families, and 18 weeks of paid parental leave for both parents. There's access to wellbeing tools and professional development opportunities. The culture emphasizes flexibility to work irregular hours during event cycles and frequent travel for team gatherings and global events. Annual team retreats bring the distributed workforce together in different locations.
