About us

To make digital asset markets liquid and efficient while transforming the world of finance by leveraging crypto and blockchain to drive innovation.

One of the largest algorithmic trading firms in digital assets, Wintermute manages hundreds of millions in assets and trades over $5 billion daily across dozens of platforms. Founded in 2017, the firm provides liquidity across centralized and decentralized exchanges, OTC markets, and supports blockchain projects through strategic investments. With offices in London, New York, and Singapore, Wintermute combines the technological rigor of traditional high-frequency trading with startup agility. The company operates without bureaucracy — developers report directly to the CTO, and employees are empowered to act like owners from day one. Rather than viewing itself as a financial services provider, Wintermute positions itself as a technology company building the infrastructure for decentralized finance.

Products

The core business spans algorithmic market making, OTC trading, and venture investments. Wintermute provides continuous liquidity across 70+ venues, handling both spot and derivative products for institutional counterparties. The OTC desk offers access to hundreds of tokens with bespoke structures and programmatic API access. Beyond trading, Wintermute Ventures invests in early-stage DeFi protocols, while the firm incubates new projects and recently launched Armitage, a vault curation platform for decentralized lending markets. The company also supports token projects with liquidity provision for both listed and pre-listed assets.

Funding

Wintermute raised $22.8 million across four rounds, with the most recent being a $20 million Series B in January 2021 led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Pantera Capital. Earlier rounds included a $2.8 million Series A in June 2020 and a seed round in January 2020 led by Blockchain.com Ventures. Other investors include Sino Global Capital, Avon Ventures by Fidelity Investments, and DeFi Alliance. The company reported $1.05 billion in revenue in 2021 and has been profitable through trading operations rather than relying on continuous external funding.

Recent news

In late May and early June 2026, Wintermute officially expanded its operations into the prediction market sector. The firm began providing continuous, two-sided liquidity for event contracts on leading platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi, leveraging its digital asset trading infrastructure to improve pricing efficiency, narrow spreads, and increase market depth.

Technology

Built primarily on C++ for high-performance, low-latency trading systems including exchange connectivity, order management, and risk systems. Python handles research, tooling, and operational services, while the firm is adopting Rust for new developments and uses Go for select services. DeFi work involves Solidity development. All production runs on Linux with PostgreSQL for data management plus custom in-house solutions. Hardware-level optimization includes CUDA for signal generation. The web stack uses TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, and Next.js for client-facing platforms, with Cloudflare for content delivery.

Benefits

Flexible working arrangements focus on productivity over rigid schedules, though several days per week in the London office are required. The office includes a private gym with unlimited food and drinks. Compensation features performance-based variable bonuses with significant upside potential, plus standard benefits like pension and private health insurance. The culture emphasizes meritocracy and flat hierarchy — no multiple approval layers or bureaucratic processes. UK visa sponsorship is available for international candidates. Regular team events include meals, gaming, holiday celebrations, and annual company getaways.
