About us

To make crypto and traditional currencies equal, accessible, and simple to everyone.

Founded in 2014, Wirex bridges traditional finance and digital currencies through its crypto-enabled debit card and multi-currency platform. The London-based company serves over 7 million users across 130+ countries, processing more than $20 billion in transactions. As a principal member of both Visa and Mastercard, Wirex lets users spend crypto at 80+ million locations worldwide through real-time conversion. Beyond the flagship Wirex Card, the platform offers high-yield savings accounts, the Cryptoback™ rewards program (up to 8% cashback in crypto), and Banking-as-a-Service infrastructure for other fintech companies. Recent additions include Wirex Private for high-net-worth users and Wirex One, a non-custodial app powered by stablecoins. The team operates with a remote-first culture across multiple countries.

Products

The Wirex Card remains the core product—a crypto-enabled debit card supporting real-time conversion of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other digital assets for spending anywhere Visa or Mastercard is accepted. The Wirex App functions as a multi-currency wallet supporting 150+ traditional and digital assets, with features like currency exchange, high-yield savings (up to 16% APR), and the Cryptoback™ program offering up to 8% crypto rewards. Recent launches include Wirex One for non-custodial asset management without seed phrases, Wirex Private for high-net-worth users with dedicated managers and metal cards, and Wirex BaaS—a full-stack API that lets other companies integrate crypto-enabled banking services.

Funding

Wirex has raised approximately $22-23 million across multiple rounds. The most recent Series B in February 2022 brought in $15 million, following a $3 million Series A in March 2017 from SBI Holdings. Additional funding includes equity crowdfunding that raised over £3.1 million through Crowdcube. Key investors include SBI Investment, Love Capital, NGC Ventures, and Genesis Capital China. The company reached a $165 million valuation during its 2020 Series A and reported $27.8 million in annual revenue for 2024—a 64% increase from the previous year.

Recent news

In June 2026, Wirex announced it had joined the Visa Agentic Ready programme as an issuer. Through this partnership, Wirex will collaborate with Visa to test and validate AI-driven agentic payments in the UK, exploring how artificial intelligence can securely initiate and complete real-world transactions on behalf of consumers.

Technology

Backend development relies on C#, Go, and Java, with JavaScript and Vue.js for frontend work. API testing uses Postman and Swagger, while the Atlassian stack (Jira, Confluence) handles project management alongside version control through GitHub and Bitbucket. The blockchain architecture incorporates Circle's Arc Layer 1 blockchain, Crossmint smart wallets, and Privy for non-custodial integrations. TeamCity supports continuous integration, while the platform leverages advanced on-chain primitives and smart contracts for autonomous payment systems. Quality assurance emphasizes automated testing capabilities in C#, JavaScript, or Go.
