About us
Provide members with the best crypto-native banking experience—secure, accessible, and flexible.
Xapo Bank is a Gibraltar-based, regulated crypto bank that's been providing secure Bitcoin banking since 2013. With over 150 employees distributed across 30+ countries, it operates as a fully remote, members-only bank focused on helping Bitcoin holders preserve and grow their wealth. The platform combines traditional USD banking with Bitcoin services, offering everything from interest-bearing accounts to Bitcoin-backed loans. Members can earn up to 4% APY on both Bitcoin and USD deposits, access global spending through a debit card with no FX fees, and get personalized support from dedicated relationship managers. Security sits at the core of everything they build — this is a regulated bank where a breach has real business and regulatory consequences.
Products
The core product is a global membership account that lets users hold, spend, and manage both fiat currencies (USD, EUR, GBP) and digital assets (Bitcoin, USDC, USDT) in one secure app. Members earn daily interest on their balances, access Bitcoin-backed lines of credit without liquidating holdings, and spend globally with a debit card that offers 1% cashback. The platform includes an investment dashboard for stocks, ETFs, and other cryptocurrencies, plus 24/7 support and dedicated relationship managers. Everything runs on triple-layered security infrastructure with underground vaults and MPC technology.
Funding
Xapo raised $40 million across two Series A rounds in 2014. The first $20 million came from Benchmark Capital, Fortress Investment Group, and Ribbit Capital in March. A second $20 million round followed in July from Greylock Partners, Index Ventures, and Emergence Capital Partners. No public funding rounds have been disclosed since then, though some sources mention a $20 million round in March 2026.
Recent news
In June 2026, Xapo Bank’s Chief Strategy, Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Officer, Joey Garcia, highlighted in exclusive interviews the growing necessity for robust infrastructure, clear regulatory frameworks, and compliance to facilitate institutional Bitcoin adoption, specifically noting the momentum of the CLARITY Act. Concurrently, the company’s Q1 2026 Digital Wealth Report revealed a strategic trend among its members toward long-term capital preservation, marked by an 18.5% increase in average Bitcoin holdings and an 8.9% growth in active Bitcoin-backed loans, as wealthy investors increasingly prioritize debt-based liquidity over active trading during market volatility.
Technology
Built on AWS for cloud infrastructure with GCP handling data warehousing. The backend runs containerized microservices using Docker and Kubernetes, with Python (Django/Flask) and Node.js as primary languages. Data storage spans PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and Redis. The architecture follows Domain-Driven Design and Event-Driven patterns with strong emphasis on observability, CI/CD automation, and 12-factor app principles. Mobile apps use Kotlin for Android and Swift for iOS, with frontend leveraging JavaScript frameworks like Next.js.
