Senior Data Scientist, Finance Ecosystem

The Mysten Labs product team is looking for a Data Scientist to create data-driven strategies to make web3 a reality. You will sift through on-chain transactions, assets, packages, and dApps in order to cut through the hype and determine which use cases and applications deliver real, long-standing value to Sui users and the Sui ecosystem. You will create on-chain experimentation frameworks to polish the product experience, to understand market inefficiencies, and to help smart contract developers leverage Sui’s edge, in on-chain composability and programmability.

This is the first data-focused position at Mysten Labs and as such, you will interface closely and continuously with product, engineering, partnerships, and leadership teams. This position will blend both short-term and long-term projects including; analyzing the network’s performance, tokenomics, and product verticals such as digital commerce and gaming.

Your initial focus will be growing Sui’s on-chain finance ecosystem from scratch. You will use data to help build an ecosystem delivering utility, security, and value through mass consumer-facing applications. You will help identify and grow applications that improve financial inclusion across the globe and make Sui assets accessible to billions.

What You'll Do:

• You will own and develop the data construction, analysis, and experimentation framework for Sui’s on-chain finance ecosystem. Your first long-term project will be mapping and understanding the relationship across DeFi protocols, Sui assets, and on-chain dApps such as games or NFTs.
• You will define and measure on-chain KPI’s and deliver actionable insights to help grow the Sui ecosystem.
• You will craft experimentation frameworks tailored for Sui’s technical design.
• You will work closely with the core engineering team to assess the performance of Sui’s tokenomics design and recommend upgrades.
• You will work closely with the product team to deliver actionable insights for all verticals including digital identity, digital commerce, gaming, and asset ownership.

Who You Are:

• At least 6+ years of experience in data science, engineering or related quantitative positions. A PhD or Masters Degree in a quantitative field (economics, statistics, applied mathematics, or related) is preferred.
• Proficient in Python, SQL, or related languages.
• Comfortable with economic and financial concepts, including prices, demand and supply, yields, market equilibria.
• Thrives under uncertainty. Reacts to challenges with zest and looks forward to the opportunity of creating a full-blown work stream from a simple idea.
• Ability to parse sophisticated technical frameworks into actionable insights for product, business, and leadership teams.
• Strongly independent, ability to execute an end-to-end project with little to no oversight, including ideation, design, implementation, and interpretation.
• A generalist who feels comfortable both identifying and constructing a simple dashboard with highly targeted metrics and creating a sophisticated data model that teases out complex relationships from a sea of noise.

Nice to Haves:

• Familiarity with distributed systems including blockchain architecture and composable smart contracts.
• Experience, either as a user or professionally, of on-chain finance products such as DeFi protocols.

Compensation Range: $200K - $240K
