The Role
We are excited to share that our Last Expedition team is seeking a talented and experienced Technical Artist with expertise in Unreal Engine 5.2, performance, and tool creation. As a Technical Artist, you will play a vital role in optimizing and maintaining the performance of our games developed using Unreal Engine 5. Your primary responsibilities will include capturing and analyzing performance data, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions to improve overall game performance.
Additional desired responsibilities would be guiding and supporting lighting/skybox creation, dynamic foliage and character/weapon pipelines as we ramp into production on these efforts.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the team to understand our performance requirements and objectives
- Capture and analyze performance data using various profiling and monitoring tools for Unreal Engine 5.2 - using tools like Unreal Insights and PIX
- Identify performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and other issues that impact the gameplay experience
- Develop and implement performance optimization strategies to improve frame rates, load times, and overall game performance
- Write custom tools and scripts to automate pipeline tasks
- Research, develop and maintain lighting, skybox, and foliage pipelines
- Collaborate with artists, designers, and engineers to optimize game assets, materials, shaders, and rendering techniques
- Research and stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends and techniques
- Provide guidance and recommendations to the team on the best practices for maintaining performance
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years as a Technical Artist within game development
- Experience analyzing performance captures for Unreal Engine 5 using tools like Unreal Insights and PIX
- Experience creating tools and scripts to assist in game development and maintenance
- Research and stay updated on the latest industry trends and techniques related to performance monitoring and optimization.
- Self-motivated, stellar work ethic, fun collaborator

Nice-to-Have Skills and Qualifications
- Familiarity with other game engines, such as UE or Unity, and their performance monitoring tools
- Knowledge of GPU profiling tools and techniques
- Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and distributed systems
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies
- Prior successful experience working in a fully remote environment
