As a Protocol Engineer, you will contribute to the Ceramic protocol alongside the rest of the core engineers. Projects may include challenges with distributed consensus, sharding, access control systems, blockchain system design, and more. As an early team member, you'll have the opportunity to build deeper expertise in areas you're already familiar as well as explore those that are new.

You will get to ...

  • Add new features to Ceramic, helping unlock new use cases and potential on the network while preserving strong consensus, scalability, code quality, and test coverage
  • Help scale the network, with well-considered plans for sharding, consensus, and networking with future growth
  • Collaborate with the identity and tooling teams to make sure critical products built on top of the core protocol are advancing in lockstep, together serving the developer ecosystem's key needs
  • Deliver a world-class developer experience, helping design clear and well-documented APIs with empathy for a new developers' context
  • Help install exceptional testing infrastructure that unlocks more rapid and high quality feature development for future versions

You're likely a great candidate if you have...

  • Experience with distributed systems, including any of distributed consensus, horizontal scaling, databases, peer-to-peer systems, blockchains, etc.
  • Experience with multi-threaded/highly concurrent software
  • Built and supported infrastructure software used by other developers to run their production applications
  • A commitment to testing and an appreciation of the importance of robust testing frameworks
  • An ability to understand and communicate effectively about tradeoffs in various designs and software architectures.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, and a desire to work as part of a team committed to a common goal

The TeamWe are a lean, voraciously curious team spread across Europe and the East Coast. We are impact driven, intentional about our role, communications and actions, and intensely focused on building quality tools for our open source community. We believe a better model for managing identity and data online can give power back to users and builders, that this model is key to a growing movement, and that our team is a critical part of making that movement successful.
We pay competitively and fairly across the globe, offer great and flexible benefits, and view everyone on our team as an owner -- both with generous equity grants and lots of agency to help set our direction.

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We cannot succeed in our mission without it. People that identify with groups traditionally underrepresented in tech, including but not limited to gender or racial identity, are particularly encouraged to apply.
