As a markets reporter for CoinDesk, you will be part of a team covering the fast-exploding realm of cryptocurrencies for our readers around the world.

For this particular role, we are looking for a reporter who can break news regularly by talking to high-level cryptocurrency industry executives, money managers and market analysts. The mix of stories could include anecdotally-driven pieces focusing on who's making money in crypto markets and how, along with insightful, forward-looking pieces highlighting the next big trends in these fast-moving, ever-changing volatile markets. This reporter also will be responsible for covering the fast-changing crypto market structure, which some experts believe will eventually serve as the "digital rails" for assets from stocks to bonds, commodities and foreign exchange.

Your mission: to ensure CoinDesk readers are fully up-to-date whenever and wherever something happens on the beat, and that all content is accurate, punctual and written in CoinDesk style.

You could be chasing and explaining an interview one minute, getting the inside scoop on a promising new blockchain protocol the next and being first to identify a new trend after that, all while trying to build an unrivaled network of sources that will help you make the crypto market transparent to readers in easy-to-grasp prose. You're a high-energy news hound who has a way of building and maintaining sources, plays well with others, communicates clearly, and wants to win.

Responsibilities:

  • Help the team monitor the markets for moves, headline and storify notable moves.
  • Build a network of sources and conduct interviews to produce exclusive insights on cryptocurrency markets and market structure.
  • Pay attention to global macroeconomic trends as well as mainstream finance to find the crypto angle.
  • Write concise, sophisticated breaking news pieces and features with a voice. The pieces will not only explain what happened but ideally will tell the reader why it matters and how it fits in with the overall picture.
  • Write or contribute to daily market updates, working hand-in-glove with market teams in other regions.
  • Occasionally write spot news to help out to ensure comprehensive news coverage.
  • Build a profile as an outstanding crypto journalist by conducting video interviews, appearing as a guest or occasional moderator on CoinDesk TV and leading panel discussions at industry conferences.
  • Occasionally attend relevant events, meetups and conferences, covering as appropriate.

About You:

The ideal candidate is based in the U.S. and has at least five years of journalism experience, including financial markets coverage. A master's degree in journalism is a strong plus, as is fluency or competency in foreign languages. Remote working on a permanent basis is perfectly acceptable, although we also have an office in New York where you would have the option of working regularly if desired. You are a self-starter with an insatiable intellectual curiosity, high energy, a nose for news, and a can-do/collaborative attitude who can write clear, concise copy on tight deadlines.
