Blockchain Security (BlockSec) team’s mission is to Secure funds and data from protocol through wallet. Coinbase has a unique opportunity: enabling our customers to easily and securely interface with blockchains, a.k.a. digital asset networks, a.k.a. cryptocurrencies. Blockchains are a cutting edge technology, with many unique security considerations for any entity that supports interaction with them. Understanding those unique considerations requires deep expertise in blockchains and the ability to maintain that expertise over time.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

The Blockchain Security - Research and Engineering Manager’s responsibility is to identify trends in Blockchain Security and develop minimum viable products to improve Blockchain Security team’s performance through automation, tooling, or process. The role includes:

  • Identify trends in Blockchain security using external research in the industry, security incidents and risk identified by Blockchain Security
  • Propose solutions and develop MVPs to automate risk identification, management, and mitigation processes
  • Collaborate with BlockSec Operations team to understand heuristics for risk identification and automations
  • Provide solutions to achieve 10x scale in BlockSec operations
  • Ideation and experimentation to develop BlockSec product roadmap
  • Collaborate with BlockSec Platform team to scale the BlockSec products
  • Work with our talent organization to source and hire amazing engineers who will expand the Coinbase culture and products
  • Coach your direct reports to develop novel automation solutions to support BlockSec scaling
  • Collaborate with cross functional partners to prioritize product features
  • Set clear targets and objectives, and establish KPIs for the team

What we're looking for in you:

  • At least 2 years experience in managing versatile security teams that have had to adapt to the changing needs of a business experiencing rapid growth
  • At least 6 years experience and solid foundation in security topics such as product security, application security, security operations, or third party security
  • Expertise in security research, security product ideation and developing MVPs
  • Expertise in building and leading a security research and engineering team with the ability to provide hands-on technical guidance to the team
  • You have experience or willingness to research BlockSec risks and risk identification and mitigation methods to develop repeatable innovation
  • You have knowledge of engineering/tooling and ability to quickly develop working prototypes
  • You have the unique ability to investigate a new topic using white papers or blog posts
  • Ability to review multiple security incidents to identify risk patterns
  • Ability to design and improve procedures that solve problems in simple and scalable ways
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders in order to drive alignment
  • You are passionate about growing people and helping them achieve their goals
  • You have an energy and self-drive for continuous learning as Crypto is a constantly and rapidly changing space
  • Ability to do both long term thinking and short term planning

Nice to haves:

  • You have developed tools to improve efficiency of a security organization
  • You have experience in crypto/blockchain technology
