About us
OpenZeppelin is a leading cybersecurity company that provides security products to build, automate, and operate decentralized applications.
With a mission to protect the open economy, our team created the most popular open source library for smart contract development with over 2 million downloads. Our unique expertise subsequently allowed us to uncover major security vulnerabilities for the Ethereum Foundation, MakerDAO, and Facebook’s Libra, and conduct security audits for many top blockchain companies including Coinbase, Brave, Compound, Aave, and Augur.
Building on this experience, we recently launched a platform to help teams automate their Ethereum operations and securely ship products faster: OpenZeppelin Defender.
OpenZeppelin Defender received over 1k account signups in the first 30 days after launch, with early adopters including Balancer, Compound, Aave, Opyn, PoolTogether, dYdX and more.
With the success of our products, security audit work, and open source educational efforts, we are setting industry standards for building secure systems in a fast-growing industry that is creating an open financial system for the world.
What you’ll be doing
The mission for this role is to create and promote a compelling narrative to drive demand and adoption for a new project at OpenZeppelin.
As the Head of Marketing, you will be responsible for the branding, messaging, positioning, launches, community management, GTM strategy, market and customer research, integrated campaigns and overall content strategy for the project. Focus will be mostly on driving brand awareness and community management.
You will be the founder of the project's Marketing team, working closely with OpenZeppelin’s current marketing team, external contractors (content writer, design, community manager) and agencies.
What you’ll be specifically doing
- Develop project's marketing plans and strategy, including - among other things - defining the value proposition, positioning and messaging frameworks by persona and segment (users, investors, node runners).
- Drive awareness, grow community and nurture adoption of users, investors, and node runners, through partner activities, content marketing, PR, webinars, social and online marketing, and OpenZeppelin and third-party events, among others.
- Design and execute content plans targeted to the user, node runner, and investor communities. Identify topics and motivate the OpenZeppelin organization and external community members to create original content. This may include blog posts, research and reports, project updates, guides, case studies, presentations and sales material.
- Create a healthy culture in both technical and investor communities founded on value creation, core values, and a code of conduct. Foster conversations, manage expectations, and resolve conflicts within community forums and social media channels. Hire and manage a team of community managers.
- Identify and close relevant partnerships to drive project’s usage and awareness.
- Work closely with the OpenZeppelin team and industry experts to ensure effective thought leadership and ongoing relevance in the market.
- Define execution timelines, channels and audience needs intended to grow project’s position as the leader in the blockchain cybersecurity space.
- Create branding, website, blog, community forums, and social media accounts for the project.
- Establish KPIs for all of your team’s efforts and track performance to ensure marketing plans are delivering expected business outcomes.
You have
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in product marketing roles at top technology or cybersecurity companies. Experience leading marketing strategies on an English-speaking, global scale (Chinese is a big plus).
- Experience working in a technical industry and work environment. Experience in the cybersecurity space and understanding of developer audiences and blockchain technology are big pluses.
- Experience targeting to and managing an investor community.
- Demonstrated experience in brand awareness and driving narratives in the marketplace.
- Ability to manifest the product vision/direction via compelling positioning and messaging.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across teams to successfully launch new products and features.
- Excellence in verbal and written communication, with the ability to create succinct, compelling messaging.
- Compelling storyteller with a strategic and analytical mindset who can engage and educate customers and investors.
- Strong personal organizational skills and a love for self-time management.
- Superb organization and project management skills. Ability to work on and manage multiple complex projects with multiple stakeholders, at once.
- A startup mentality with a bias to action and the ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion and/or experience with blockchain technology and DeFi, open-source or cybersecurity or similar highly technical industry. Bonus points for technical knowledge of Ethereum and DeFi.
